File Type Differentiation in Editor?

(Maybe I am missing something, but this has been my experience.)

Say, I have three files open in the editor, "A.eba", "A.inc", and "B.eba".

Say, I am editing "B.eba".

In that case, "A.eba", and "A.inc", will appear as tabs at the bottom of the editor window.

But from looking at the tabs, there is no way to differentiate between the two.

Both tabs show an "eba" icon, and the letter "A".

It would be nice, if "A.inc", showed an "inc" icon.

The file types which can be opened in the editor are, "eba", "dlg", "inc",  "htm", and I think, "txt".

I think it would be good if each type had its own icon (or some visual form of type indicator).

---------------------------------------------

But, unfortunately, I can't force my wishes to be implemented.

Or, can I ?!

Only the Shadow knows !

Hoo-Hoo-Ha-Ha-Ha !!

I agree the icons are the same but the labels make it easy to tell them apart.

Actually the icons are different.  One has "inc" written in it, and the other "eba".

Not for me (Windows Vista).

The "jpg" file I have attached shows tabs with duplicate names; half are for files of type "eba", and half are for files of type "inc".

Acelli's picture does show two kinds of icons, and his labels have extensions.

All of my icons read "eba", and none of my labels have extensions.

OK, I found out how to show file extensions in Vista (link below), and that basically solved my problem.

Now, all of my editor tabs show the file extensions.

The icons still all read "eba", even for "inc" files, I don't know why; but there are worse things.

My apologies Paul - I never looked that closely ::)

Dan,
You could try clicking the "tools" menu an re-registering the file extensions.  That might correct the icons.  Of course with Vista you never know ;)

The tabs show the same icon that is registered for the file type with Explorer.

Hi Paul.

I did a bunch of stuff, late at night, I don't remember what. Now, all of the correct icons are there, along with the (correct) file extensions.

So now, even with Vista, the editor works exactly as it should - Believe it or not!

As I said before, I found out how to turn on the file extensions in Vista. Basically, I think that after that, the icons remembered what to do.

I went for a couple of years only using Linux, because I can go into anaphylactic shock when exposed to Microsoft products.

Then, a couple of months ago, I broke down and bought a Windows machine at Wal-Mart.

I noticed that in Vista, the file extensions were gone. I didn't know why.

When I started using EB, it took me awhile to connect the lack of file extensions in the editor, to the lack in Vista.

You don't want to hear my opinion of Microsoft.

Apparently, Vista was a dud.

Now, I guess Windows 7 is bearing down.

Who knows what Microsoft will do?

Maybe, it will be, "Surprise, the Windows API is gone!".

I think Microsoft is intent on force-feeding .NET to everyone.

I think Microsoft keeps intentionally making previous Windows versions obsolete, in order to make upgrades mandatory.

I don't think Microsoft has the slightest care about how much misery and frustration it causes.

How long before the stripped down version of the current Windows OS, will require at least 512 gigs of RAM to run?

But, my opinion is not all bad. For instance, I am glad to be able to easily communicate in this forum.

And, I don't claim to have an inkling about Microsoft's future plans.

And, I don't claim that every word I write is golden, these are just my subjective impressions, most likely not coincident with reality.

Windows 7 is what Vista should have been.  I've been beta testing it for a while now, Emergence runs fine on it.

Smaller memory requirements as they want it to be able to run on netbooks, which use linux or XP exclusively now.  So a hardware trend has caused them to scale back the massive requirements that Vista needed.  At least they are paying attention.

Well then, if I'm honest, I have to admit I'm glad.

I looked around, and it seems the average price estimate for the bare-bones version, is $200.

But some think, Microsoft will decide to price 7 cheaper than Vista.

All the reviews I saw are glowing.

Who wants to bet it is not out by Thanksgiving?

Dan,
Should be a month or two and you can get it.  It has already been RTM (release to manufacturers) which means you will begin to see it on new PC's soon.

So, if I understand the jargon correctly, the RTM, results in the manufacturers putting OEM versions of Windows 7, in their new computers.
