This just occurred to me, is there COM on linux? And if not, is there some technology like this available only on linux? I've heard that microsoft claims COM is cross platform, but they say that about .net also, and I've only heard of a 3rd party .net runtime for linux, none from microsoft.

Zen

Good point. I didnt know .Net was cross-platform either. If it is that is.

I best not get too attached to COM then. Although i dont think i will use it that much.

Well .NET runs on some PDA and handheld devices, but as far as desktop operating systems, it's only windows, at least from microsoft.

Back to the original question, does COM exist on linux? Maybe Paul knows?

COM is a Microsoft technology.  As far as I know it only exists when your program is running under WINE.
