Title: IWBDev issue?
Post by: Brian on June 03, 2014, 09:21:08 AM
Hello,

In view of the hullabaloo with the worldwide malware threat, I have been running various anti-malware and anti-virus
programs. They didn't find anything at all, but I then downloaded the Symantec Fixtool program, which itself
didn't find anything. After it finished, it suggested I run a program called Norton Power Eraser, which looks in depth
at rootkits, etc. That didn't find anything, but . . .

After it finished, it flagged up a shortcut to IWBdev.exe, which sits on my desktop, as BAD. Did I want to delete it?
Of course, I said yes, as I could easily re-create it. But not only did it delete the shortcut, but it also deleted the
iwbdev.exe application file as well

So, is there something in there that upsets Norton Power Eraser, or is it a false positive?

Anyways, I don't feel inclined to re-install IWB 2.5 again until it has been resolved in view of the severity
of the threats we are receiving

Thanks,

Brian

False Positive

From the Norton Power Eraser download page:

Because Norton Power Eraser uses aggressive methods to detect threats,  there is a risk that it can select some legitimate programs for removal. If you accidently remove a legitimate program, you can run Norton Power Eraser to review past repair sessions and undo them.

Thanks, Larry,

I've now restored the shortcut and exe - all seems OK. I have been on the free version of Avast!
for ages now, and decided this morning to upgrade to the full version. It does quite a bit more
than the free version, and for the cost of £25 it gives me peace of mind
