Title: Ionic Wind Snippet Manager
Post by: Ionic Wind Software Team on August 31, 2010, 06:14:27 PM
Ionic Wind Software is pleased to sponsor the Ionic Wind Snippet Manager, by T. Larry McCaughn.

The Ionic Wind Snippet Manager (IWSM) is a tool to manage IWBASIC© code snippets, source files, and complete projects in an efficient, user friendly manner.

IWSM allows the User to create an unlimited number of code snippets and assign them to an unlimited number of user defined categories.  Associated files such as images, include files, and/or data files may be attached to and stored with a snippet.

IWSM consists of a custom graphical user interface to two searchable databases.  One database is read-only and contains all the examples supplied with the standard distribution of IWBASIC.  The other database contains all the user generated data.

Minimum Requirements:
- 128MB of ram.
- 7.0MB Free hard drive space.
- Tested with Windows XP and Windows Vista.

IWSM is well suited for storing the sample programs that come with IWBASIC and for storing code snippets that a user may repeatedly use in various applications.

The following are just a few suggestions of specific ways of using IWSM:

Ionic Wind Snippet Manager 1.10 is now available.

This version is available to licensed owners who may download it following the instructions sent to them previously.

Changes/Additions:
--------------------------
- Added support for *.iwb files as well as existing *.eba files.
- Fixed scrolling in search term edit field.
- Fixed tabstops in Search dialog.
- Revised format of help file and added pdf and eBook versions.

Notes:
Make a backup file of your User data file before installing this update; just in case!!
Install over current installation.

If both IWBasic and EBasic are installed, the user will receive a one-time prompt to select which compiler keyword  and editor color schemes to use.

Since this a one time prompt, if you have the demo version of IWBasic installed but plan on removing it then select EBasic.

This version is available to licensed owners who may download it following the instructions sent to them previously.

This is a major change to IWSM to allow it to be installed on a memory stick and freely carried from one PC to another.
This required the following
Changes/Additions:
--------------------------
- Removed references to the Windows Registry
- Removed  the requirement that EBasic / IWBasic be installed on the computer where IWSM is installed.
- Added a Compiler menu option for selecting which file extension to use when exporting to User files (iwb/eba).
- Added a Code Viewing Pref menu option for setting User color preferences(similar to IWBasic IDE Code Editor Preference)

Notes:
Make a backup file of your User data file before installing this update; just in case!!

There is a bug in the recent release of IWSM.
When using the Preference menu option to set the User Database location it automatically creates a new blank database at that location without first checking to see if one already exist at that location.

If you use this option and don't have a backup of your user database (usnip.mdb) you will lose all your data!!!!!

I strongly suggest you don't use the 2.00 version and that you wait until I can issue a fix.

Ionic Wind Snippet Manager 2.01 is now available.

This version is available to licensed owners who may download it following the instructions sent to them previously.

Changes:
--------------------------
- Removed the option to change the location of the User dbase on the Preferences dialog. There's no need for this option since it now will always stay in the same folder as IWSM itself.

-----------------------------------------
Note:
Updating from a previous version:
Here's what you need to do this one time when installing this new version (or later if you decide to install it in a different location). If you are installing it initially on a memory stick you only have to do this one time and not each time you move the memory stick.

1)Make a copy of your current usnip.mdb file(and usnip.dat file if there is one)
2)Install the new version of IWSM in a folder(other than where your current copy is located).
3)Start,  then close, IWSM. (to initiate some ini file variables)
4)Paste the copy of your  usnip.mdb file(and usnip.dat file if there is one) you made in step 1 into the folder where you installed IWSM.
5)Restart IWSM and your User database should be available
6)If you installed IWSM on a memory stick you should be able to shut IWSM down, move the memory stick to another PC, and restart IWSM without incident.
