Title: guide to the standard aurora base class library ?
Post by: demonsource on June 09, 2006, 08:55:10 PM
Hello,

Where can I find the guide or roadmap to the standard Aurora runtime/base class library/framework as foreseen by Aurora's creator/community?

Having read/searched this forum I am under the impression that the specifications for such libraries have not formally been published yet.

The help file contains the skeleton of all of the classes currently available.  I am working on filling in descriptions.

What I meant was more in the line of whether there is a defined goal for the eventual functionality that the base libraries should support on all  target platforms. The existing docs (I considered the help file in my previous post), do not seem to indicate this.

The reason I am pointing this out is because I think Aurora shows some promise and it would be good to have such a roadmap for those thinking of contributing.

The original development schedule

http://www.ionicwind.com/forums/index.php?topic=18.0

Lists what I had planned for functionality.

Other than that it is whatever comes along and is requested by the users.

What if someone came along and proposed a whole new framework. Would your focus be on the ability of the core language to support this and leave the community to drive what goes on top?

What do you mean by "Framework" ?.   If you have a specific class or functionality you need then just ask.

By "Framework" I mean something like the POSIX C runtime, WxWidgets, QT or the Python "Batteries Included" approach. MFC (Micro....), VCL (Borland) , .NET (Micro....), J2EE (Sun)... etc... in no preferential order on my part.

I am simply wondering whether there is a "formal" specification for such a "framework" in place or whether there is scope for such.

Aurora has it's own unique framework now.   Similar in design to MFC.  However Aurora isn't C.

Again if your looking for a specific class to be added then just ask.  There are no other 'roadmaps'

OK. Thanks, that answers some of my questions.
